SEATTLE - The Ethiopian Community of Seattle hosted a warm recognition event for the Seattle Baro Club. The Baro soccer club achieved an astonishing second place prize of the first division at the 24th Ethiopian Sports Federation of North America (ESFNA) convened in Dallas, Texas. The success of The Baro team started as early as its first participation where it also won the first place title of the second division last year in Los Angeles.

Sport commentators at the ESFNA festival in Dallas never hide their surprise at the high performance of the Baro team. This reporter was there at the final match between Los Angeles and Seattle Baro. It was evident that Baro played short for 50 minutes after losing one player for a controversial red card. Even so, it was not easy at all to LA to win the match except after the extra time period.

Instructor Kassahun Teka, guest of honor of ESFNA was also a special guest of Seattle. Kassahun and Zufan (the owner of Mesob Ethiopian Restaurant) presented medals and special awards to members of the team. Zufan is tipped as the “mother of the Baro club” because of her unwavering assistance to the club. The organizers gave special thanks to Enana Kassa for allowing the premises of Zobel Restaurant for this and similar community occasions. The Ethiopian Community Mutual Association also presented certificates to Ethiopian business establishments for a continued contribution and support to the over all community activity. Ethiomedia.com is one of the recipients of the Certificate of Appreciation.

Members of the team promised the vibrant audience to achieve more results in the coming years. Seattle Baro has Yohanes Woldemariam as President, Natnael Tamiru as Captain while Biruk Dagne serves the team as a coach. Staff members of Ethiomedia would like to use this opportunity to congratulate the Seattle Baro and we will keep on doing our level best to help these kinds of community initiatives. Our sincere appreciation also goes to Dawit Solomon, Dagnew Yigezu and Tito Wolde for your service to the Ethiopian Community.
