CUD never breaks its words

On behalf of The Coalition for Unity and Democracy (CUD), I would like to inform the CUD members, supporters and the public at large that CUD is committed to bring the May 15, 2005 election to its end in a peaceful, transparent and democratic manner.

To achieve this CUD has entered into agreements with the ruling party and NEB several times. Since the last agreement the NEB and EPRDF has violated all the major points in the agreements and have continued rigging the peoples vote. The killing, harassments and detaining of the opposition members, witnesses, supporters and the Ethiopian people has been intensified since we signed these agreements. The ruling party have made the situation more unattainable than ever. Because of these reasons CUD is considering to take an appropriate action to the current situation so that all concerned parties to respect the peoples vote and the rule of law.

Currently CUD is evaluating different solutions and will present its decision in a few days time and inform the public in proper channels. I will reassure our members, supporters and the Ethiopian people at large that CUD has and will never bring the peoples vote on the negotiation table. Therefore, on behalf of CUD, I would like to ask the public to patiently wait for the CUD information and not to be confused by different kinds of rumours spreading through different medias.

Sincerely,

Getachew Wanna
Vice Foreign Relations Officer
UEDP-MEDHIN/CUD
