ATLANTA – Home to thousands of Ethiopian Americans, Atlanta has occassionally seen protests against the inhuman regime in Ethiopia.

ATLANTA, Georgia – The proposed meeting for “Amhara ethnic group,” organized by Deputy Prime Minister of EPRDF, Addissu Legesse, at the Atlanta Marriott Century Hotel has been a complete failure due to the overwhelming presence of angry protestors.
According to the security forces of the hotel, the meeting was called off by the Deputy Premier himself, who was monitoring the situation closely from his room.
There was also a large number of police force who at about 5pm told the gathering to leave the hotel, because the meeting has been “cancelled.” Earlier, part of the protestors who entered and overcrowded the hall chanted anti-Woyane and anti-neo-banda slogans while still others, who stayed outside the building, echoed similar messages.
There were a handful of neo-bandas sitting on the other side of the hall “with gloomy face”, one observer noted. Everybody who entered the assembly hall was searched and neither video camera nor cellular phones were allowed.
While leaving the hotel, protestors were exchanging congratulatory messages and showed two thumbs up, a symbol for yet another victory over Woyane’s divisive propaganda in Atlanta.
A couple of young Ethiopians expressed their satisfaction over the united action taken by Ethio-Americans and Ethiopians against the EPRDF’s delegation and noted that “Addissu wouldn’t have bees so humiliated, had he listened to our earlier advise that ‘he better reconsider his trip to Atlanta before he boards his plane.’
One of the rally’s organizing committee members talked to Mr. Michael Cannizzaro, Head of security of the Hotel and asked him why the meeting was cancelled. He reiterated that the meeting was cancelled by “him”, referring to Addissu Legesse. Mr. Cannizzaro further expressed that the deputy premier may probably have a discussion with his handful of “supporters.”
Genuine Ethiopians and Ethio-Americans have once again demonstrated that Atlanta will not be a safe heaven for neo-fascists who are responsible for the deaths of hundreds of innocent Ethiopians and thousands of others languishing in Woyane’s prisons.
Sources close to the delegation said that Addissu and his entrouge were so disappointed by successive failures of their mission and worried so much about the forthcoming similar meetings in Columbus Ohio, and Washington DC.
No doubt, humiliated in Seattle, San Jose, Boston and today in Atlanta, Addissu Legesse may wrap up his “Tour of Bankruptcy” by visiting Washington DC, a city famous for its hospitality and warm reception, or board his plane back to Addis Ababa.
