The Ad Hoc Coordinating Committee has learned that the Kinijit leaders have not yet received entry visas to enter the U.S. As a result, the August 29 expected date of arrival is likely to be postponed to give the leaders more time to secure visas. The leaders have completed all of the requirements and submitted their visa applications, and we are informed that the U.S. Embassy is awaiting clearance from the Department of State. The Committee expects that the consular office will process the visa applications within a reasonable time.
The Leadership Delegation to the U.S. will include Ato Hailu Shawul, Chairman of CUD, W/T Birtukan Midekssa, Vice Chair, Dr. Berhanu Nega, Addis Ababa Mayor-Elect and members Dr. Hailu Araya (Spokesperson), Ato Brook Kebede and Ato Gizachew Shiferaw.
The Leadership Delegation has expressed its readiness to come to the U.S. and interact with the larger Ethiopian community and Kinijit support group members.
The Committee will proceed to perform its duties consistent with the action taken by the CUDP Council. The Committee will continue to plan in anticipation of the arrival of the Leadership.
Updates will be provided to the public once the Committee receives information on the visa processing actions from the consular office.
