Washington DC raises $137,000 to bolster democratic opposition

ARLINGTON, Virginia – Ethiopians who accorded a hero’s welcome to CUDP-Kinijit leaders to a meeting here raised over $137,000 on Sept 16, 2007 to help ease the financial needs of the opposition (Tewodros Mekebeb)

ARLINGTON, Virginia – Ethiopians who accorded a hero’s welcome to CUDP-Kinijit leaders to a meeting here raised over $137,000 on Sept 16, 2007 to help ease the financial needs of the opposition whose leadership was recently released after nearly two years of imprisonment.

Leaders Bertukan Mideksa and Berhanu Nega addressed the audience on the significance of bolstering the democratic movement aimed at freeing Ethiopia from age-old tyranny.

Millennium Festivities

Meanwhile, a three-day millennium symposium ended in Seattle, Washington State, Sept 16 after inspirational briefings by Ethiopian scholars Prof. Al Mariam, Prof. Mammo Muchie, Dr. Fikre Tolossa and Dr. Fekade Fulass. A very successful millennium festival was also held in Frankfurt, Germany over the weekend where human rights activist Tamagne Beyene and others presided over after travelling from Washington DC for the event.
