June 1, 2004

DALLAS, Texas (June 1, 2004) – Iman Bedri, 18, a proud Ethiopian, a community activist, and one of the founders of a national association of Muslim Youths of Harar Ethiopia in US, became talk of newspapers in Texas as the first Ethiopian, honored student receiver of the Dallas Superintendent’s Scholar and full scholarship to Georgetown University in Washington D.C. in May 2004.

During an interview with leading newspapers such as the Dallas Morning News, Iman, a Dallas-born Ethiopian, told reporters that single mothers from Ethiopia as well as from all over the world can be positive role models to the education and wellbeing of children in the United States.

“My mother is my role model in many ways. As a single mother she played both roles as a mother and a father. Therefore, I honor my mother, Hajera Abdalla Kabir, as my hero,” said the young and intelligent Ethiopian Iman. When Iman finishes school, she plans to be a diplomat at the United Nations.
