Oklahoma State University assumes African partnership

Newsok.com | April 25, 2009

Oklahoma State University has formed a partnership with five African universities as part of a broader effort to strengthen higher education in sub-Saharan Africa and help develop the region’s economy.

OSU is among 20 universities to earn the opportunity to be paired with African counterparts for such capacity-building partnerships.

The U.S. Agency for International Development recently awarded $50,000 to each of the 20 partnerships. OSU will work with the African universities to increase their capacity to deliver degrees, basic and applied research, advanced faculty credentials, and outreach efforts.

Equal partners will include Langston University on the American side and the African universities of Hawassa, Harameya, and Mekelle in Ethiopia, and Kenyatta and Moi in Kenya.
