PM Meles Zenawi is a cold-blooded killer. He orchestrated the killing of over 193
men, women and children [according to the witness of the Investigation Committee formed by the government itself] just to remind you of the major incident happened here in Addis during the 2005 national election. The only reason he did that was because people were not happy when he sent to prison those democratically elected leaders of the CUD Party in 2005.
You may ask, “How do you know that hew as personally responsible?” The answer is very simple. He himself appeared on the national TV some days before the killing began and announced that the security forces, the police and the army was put under a central command and he emphatically added, rather declared that the commander-in-chief of those forces was supposed to be himself. In addition, he had forbidden any public gathering outside homes along with any form of demonstration there after for at least a month and that emergency rule works impliedly to date. Moreover, he also ordered the killing of the Agnuaks, the Somalis, and a multitude of people from the Ogaden Region along with many more innocent citizens at various localities since the time he usurped the political power of the country he has unfairly been exercising. I am sure, at a normal circumstance, you don’t want to honor such a killer.
Second, he is a narrow-minded thug who is always after his own interest and the interest of his group. He could go even as far as inciting violence among ethnic groups if he gets it vital for any appropriation of wealth or power. The Amharas are favorite targets in this particular case but the Oromos and others were and still are also targets of such atrocity. It is important to remind you here the fact that PM Meles and the cadres of his party always try to detach Tigrians from the rest of the people of the country, but they couldn’t succeed because all Ethiopians well know the ill intentions of the current regime. We know that Tigrians are under severe suppression in not less a degree than the rest of the populace in Ethiopia. Though the regime tries its level best to create a cleavage between Tigray and others, thanks to the high level of consciousness among the population we still are one and will remain one and undivided. Understandably, the majority believes that it is counterproductive to follow the path of the government’s divide and rule method and therefore we strongly believe that we shall never be instruments of the few elites for the sake of their material and power satisfaction.
During the 2005 election EPRDF, his party, was shamelessly using every possible means to spread terror saying that the Amharas will retaliate the Tigrians (the ethnic group PM Meles is from) and the only means to stop them is to elect EPRDF. Apart from this, many inter-ethnic conflicts were designed by the party he is leading and thousands lost their lives and many more went on exile. The number of ethnic based conflicts increased exponentially after his party came to power some 20 years ago but he claims to be the champion of the rights of nations and nationalities. His speech and his deeds are diametrically different; it is because of this that he is never trusted in Ethiopia whatever he speaks. He is expert in lying and mischief.
PM Meles and his party are working not for the country they claim they are leading but for themselves and their cronies. You might have heard about the multimillion dollar companies owned by EPRDF.They all operate under
EFFORT, an acronym that stands for an organization formed by EPRDF to run the economic activities of the party. PM Meles always makes sure that the companies under EFFORT are favored in all ways- tax free import, bids without competitions, access to public loans which may not be returned, etc.Yet, millions of Ethiopians can’t survive without food aid every year.
Now PM Meles has spread a network of recruiting new members to his party, members that blindly obey the party and work for the realization of the whims of PM Meles. Those who refuse don’t have any chance of getting jobs, further education and promotion, even they may not be allowed to leave the country. They are let to perish gradually in the country.
He himself has said that China is a good development model for countries like Ethiopia although he omitted that that country is also a good model for those who want to stay in power for a long time. Now all major opposition parties are rendered useless and multi-party democracy has been dealt with effectively and made nonexistent once and for all. In fact, we never had such a thing as ‘multi party system’; we had it theoretically, not in practice since our leaders are all the time despotic who don’t seize power by election. They use force to enter the palace and they stay there until someone with more force comes and chases out them. In such archaic political tradition, it is unwise to expect even a slightest proportion of democratic procedures.
Dear sir,
This is the situation in my country and I can assure you that this man is not a leader that wins our love. Neither is he comparable to our previous undemocratic leaders. We know him as a despot, dictator, ethnocentric and pathologically fond of lying even to the extent of lying habitually when there is no need to do so. He cannot be an example to us or to any other people in the world.
We, Ethiopians are really ashamed of having such a leader like this one. If you
stand firm in your decision to honor him the way you have intended, please know that you are adding insult to our injury.
