GENEVA – The free Birtukan Mideksa and all political prisoners in Ethiopia vigil and dinner event
organised on Saturday January 09, 2010 by the Ethiopian association in Switzerland was a
great success.

Participants discussed at length the continued illegal and callous detention of Judge Birtukan
Mideksa and all other political prisoners whose only crime was the legitimate exercise of their
fundamental natural and human rights as free citizens of their country.

Participants stressed that such brutal measures which are the hallmarks of the arrogant TPLF
gang should be countered through coordinated and ever-strengthened resistance and defiance.
They acclaimed the undaunted courage, defiance, determination and moral strength of Judge
Birtukan Mideksa in the face of brutal and wicked regime.

Those Ethiopians who opted for the path of peaceful struggle should emulate the defiance,
determination and strength of Judge Birtukan Mideksa if the peaceful struggle is to have any
meaning and concrete achievements.

The living conditions of nearly all Ethiopians under the ever-worsening despotic rule of the
Meles gang is not different from those in the dungeons of the TPLF regime. Participants
reiterated that the Ethiopian association in Switzerland (EAS) and all Ethiopians living abroad
should continue to bear the responsibility of voicing the suffering of our maimed and muted
people.

Participants have also requested the Ethiopian Association in Switzerland to form a strong
lobby group that will work to expose and pressure the Meles regime by bringing the issue of
the illegal detention of Birtukan Mideksa and all political prisoners in Ethiopia to the attention
of concerned international organizations and embassies residing here in Switzerland.

The participants have further pledged to contribute to the educational expenses of Hale (the
beloved daughter of Judge Birtukan Mideksa) until her mother is freed.

Participants expressed their determination to continue the fight until the human and
democratic rights of our people are realized and to cooperate with all who are working
towards these noble objectives.

BIRTUKAN MIDEKSA AND ALL POLITICAL PRISONERS SHALL BE FREE!
ETHIOPIA SHALL BE FREE!
