Our country, the oldest continuously sovereign states in the world, has had the misfortune of finding itself in an ouright regressive mode in the last few decades. For those in the know, the very ascent to power of an ethnocentric, flagrantly anti-Ethiopian, and patently venal outfit called Woyane, did spel a national disaster of collossal proportion.
Yes, it was during the advent of Woyane, that Ethiopia, whose sons had been pharaohs in Egypt over three thousand years ago, was suddenly dubbed a juvenile nation. The Woyane chief Meles, had pronounced that Ethiopia is nothing but century-old concoction of Menelik’s imperialist project. This vicious propagand was forced upon gullible sons and daughters of the great country for years as a matter of official Woyane policy.Those who could not discern the difference between nation-building and imperialism courted the divisive ideology allowing our enemies to cause havoc with impunity to the very survival of our country. A total war was waged against everything Ethiopian for over 20 years.
Once the pride of the nation, our armed forces were disbanded as an act of deliberate Woyane strategy to emasculate the nation. Our armed forces, which despite Mengistu’s destructive command structure defended our motherland through thick and thin against forces inimical to our integrity were replaced by Woyane forces.
The story of one of the first Air Force pilots who along with his fellow cadets dug and levelled the runway in Debre Zeit/ Bushoftu by his bare hands, is worth recounting.
The veteran pilot this scribe met at a wedding three days ago admitted to have had no guts to even have a glimpse of the ruined perimeter fencing of the Ethiopian Air Force base which he had spent his life building.
He said in his days, Harar and Wollega were inordinately represented in the cockpit crew. The acclaimed fighter pilot who hails from Wollega quipped that the selection criteria then was based on nothing but outright merit . Like many compatriots, he considers the present Ethiopian Air Force, comprising of mainly Woyanes, as an occupation force.
He fumed over our land. He said Woyane surrendered our land to the Sudan, and motgaged our heritage by leasing our ancestral lands to foreigners under the guise of investment.
The 83-year old hero mused that OLF’s renouncedment of the unnatural stance that it hitherto held, is of monumental significance to the welfare of our motherland. He said ‘essay, ! essay ! ‘Geleta Waqa’!/ Thank God!! Indeed, it is a cause for jubliation.
He said that in his mind’s eyes he sees the joy of Menelik, Gobena, Balcha, Habte Abba Mela, the Geresu Dukis, the Abdisa Agas and the many other gallant sons of Ethiopia in whose veins abundant Oromo blood had flown.
Never mediate with treacherous Woyane
‘Ethiopians should not ever make the same mistake again’, he added. One cannot agree with the distinguished-looking officer more. The lessons of the past ‘mediation’ and ‘arbitration’ efforts between Woyane and representatives of the Ethiopian people in the aftermath of the farce election, is instructive.
The Woyanes fully know the scale of destruction that they have wrought on our country and people. Like common criminals, which they are, these mercinaries cannot be trusted. Wether Ethiopian elders or foreign mediators, it would be an utter folly to ever enter into any dialogue with the Woyane.
Justice not revenge
Treasonous Woyane must exit the political scene unconditionally. Ethiopians cannot afford to enter into the sort of lopesided treaty that was imposed on South Africa after the end of apartheid. Under the guise of truth and reconciliation in which the victims of apartehid had no part, the the perpetrators of untold injustices were summarily exonerated.
Well, time will tell if the authors of apartheid in our great country could be allowed to walk away schot-free.
Surely, nobody has any right to forgive someone on behalf of another. The thousands of innocent Ethiopians whose lives have been confiscated and the many millions who have become refugees in their ouwn country, would certanily plea for justice, not revenge.
Finally the nation should rejoice the return of the proverbial prodigal son. Brothers and sisters in the OLF, I laud you for your courage and wisdom to join forces with the rest of your compatriots at long last. For this heralds that the liberation of our motherland from the contemptible soldiers of fortune, is closer than ever.
