Abebe Gellaw strikes Meles like lightning

Award-winning Abebe Gellaw chants slogans that struck Meles Zenawi like lightning. After the shocker, Meles Zenawi’s drooping head rested on his slumped body I wonder the paramedics were not called in (Ethiomedia: May 18, 2012)

Re: Ethiopian journalist strikes Meles Zenawi like lightning

Dear Editor

The distinguished Journalist Abebe Gellaw has no doubt dealt a devastating blow to Meles Zenawi that left the brutal despot visibly frightened and humiliated in full view of the global community and world leaders at the symposium chaired by President Obama. It was a supreme act of bravery reminiscent of the heroic deeds of our ancestors. Abebe’s superb performance has torn the curtain of fear adding momentum to the gathering storm of popular anger to rain fire on the regime of the pathological liar and genocidal tyrant Zenawi.

The world leaders at the gathering were reminded that “Man does not live by bread alone (Mathew 4:4) through the spoken words of Abebe Gellaw. The whole world saw the power of peaceful protest. The bravery of Abebe therefore makes him a hero of his peers, the current youth movement and future generations who will resurrect Ethiopia from the brink of failure that my older generation has ushered in.

There is no question that the self-immolation Yenesew, the arbitrary arrests and tortures of political leaders and journalists shall be crimes of the past after the reign of terror perpetrated by the racist Meles Zenawi and his cohorts for the last 20 years. This should be a lesson for tyrant Zenawi that it is much better to be liked by the people and secure their trust than erecting high-rise rise edifices, roads, and other infrastructures with borrowed money and foreign expertise and then complain that investors are responsible for the rampant corruption.

President Obama himself has seen the extent of bitterness of the masses of Ethiopian citizens at home and the Diaspora symbolized by the demonstrators. In the circumstances, one hopes that the Nobel Peace Prize winner President will withdraw his support for Zenawi and be on the side of history and the overwhelming majority of the Ethiopian people for the sake of long-term national interests of the USA and Ethiopia.

I extend my hearty congratulations to my hero Journalist Abebe Gellaw for his epic exemplary act of courage in defense of freedom and human rights.

Most sincerely,
Robele Ababya
