Eritrean generals killed in car accident

ADDIS ABABA – Two Eritrean army generals and a civilian were killed on Thursday in a car accident outside of the Eritrean capital, Eritrean TV announced today.

Brig. Gen. Mebrahtu Tekleab (aka Vaynak), Brig. Gen. Amanuel Haile (Hanjema), and Mr. Desu Tesfatsion were on their way to a military event when they ended up in the deadly crash.

On March 8, Eritrea buried its army chief of staff, General Gebregzabher Andemariam (aka Wuchu), who died after a long illness.

Eritrea boasts of having over 200,000 fighters in its army, and the government of President Isaias Afewerki uses the rhetoric of war to deter political and social reforms indefinitely.
