Getu Feleke wins Vienna Marathon in course record
AFP April 14, 2014 VIENNA (AFP) – Ethiopia’s Getu Feleke won the Vienna marathon on Sunday in a race record time that ended a seven year Kenyan domination of the event. The 27-year-old Feleke finished in two hours five minutes and 41 seconds ahead of Kenyans Alfred Kering (2hr 08:28) and Philip Sanga (2h08:58). Germany’s Anna Hahner overtook Kenya’s Caroline Chepkwony in the final stretch to take the women’s title and waltzed with joy after crossing the finish line in front of the Imperial Palace with a time of 2hr 28:59. More than 42,000 runners, a new record, took part in the city’s 17th marathon which was disputed in rainy conditions.
