MINNESOTA – The 114th anniversary celebrations of the Victory of the Battle of Adwa will be held in Minnesota over the weekend. The historic event shared by Ethiopians worldwide will be led by artist-activist Tamagne Beyene.
Background info: The 1896 Italo-Ethiopian War resulted in the victory of Ethiopia over a European colonialist force. The victory was celebrated by peoples of African descent who were languishing under European colonialism.
The victory achieved under the great Emperor Menelik has since been celebrated every year, and the anniversary celebration in Minnesota is in tandem with the long tradition.
