Dereje Demissie Bulto and his book about the 1989 coup

WASHINGTON, DC – Author Dereje Demissie, who is a lawyer by profession, reminisces, among others, how the 1989 coup in Ethiopia failed to topple former dictator Col. Mengistu Hailemariam. The coup was foiled and the plotters were rounded up while Mengistu was on a visit to the former East Germany. However, when Mengistu returned home, he showed no mercy and summarily executed most of the army generals, including the father of Dereje, General Demissie Bulto.
