EFJA celebrates 12th anniversary

Members of the Association, publishers, representatives of civic and democratic institutions and supporters and well-wishers attended the event. It was also learnt that members of the Association now in exile in Europe, USA, Canada and Australia will be celebrating the day by holding a teleconference.

It is to be recalled that last week the injunction issued by the ministry of Justice to prevent the judgment given in favor of EFJA by the Federal First Instance Court from being implemented was thrown out by the Federal High Court.

The ruling given by the first Instance Court had declared the Justice Ministry’s November 2003 ban on EFJA to be illegal, dissolved the organization created by the Ministry to replace the EFJA and ordered the Ministry to pay EFJA’s legal costs.

The Court also annulled a system for election of EFJA leadership that had been imposed by the Ministry, with the result that only EFJA members can henceforth form the Association’s governing body.
