Medrek Atlanta

ATLANTA, Georgia – Medrek opposition party leaders will on September 23 discuss topical issues with members of the Ethiopian community in the state of Georgia.

Temesgen Zewde and Gebru Asrat, known as sharp critics of the ruling EPRDF regime, are two of the Medrek delegates who are meeting with Ethiopian audiences in North America.

The other two Medrek officials, Seeye Abraha and Merera Gudina, are addressing an audience in
Denver, Colorado , about the same time on Sunday.

The opposition tour has sparked interest among the Diaspora since it is taking place in post-Meles Ethiopia. Meles Zenawi died on August 20, after 21 years of an iron-hand rule. Hailemariam Desalegn has replaced the deceased as prime minister, and many Ethiopians believe the oppostion may get a new lease on life after it has been brutalized time and again by the previous regime.

Will Medrek spring back to action and inspire the hopes and aspiration of the Ethiopian people is one of the many questions those who will attend Sunday’s meeting in Atlanta are very likely to ask.

The townhall meeting takes place at Jade Events, 2201 Lawrenceville, Hwy Decatur, GA 30033 beginning 3:00 PM on Sunday September 23.
