Message from Kinijit Leadership in Kality Prison

“Ethiopia has always been a mosaic of linguistic groups but it has no history of internecine conflict on the basis of ethnicity until the arrival of PM Meles and his party in 1991; who to the horror of many, and for the first time in the country’s long history imposed virulent ethno-centric policies including a wide ranging bantustanization of the country along ethnic lines aimed more at manipulation of differences rather than the promotion of ethnic equality.” – Kinijit, April 22, 2006

In spite of imprisonment of most of the top leadership of the CUDP in early November 2005 and subsequent massive repression throughout the country by the EPRDF, the Ethiopian people’s struggle for freedom and self government has continued. But this struggle will lose its life if the present state of leadership vacuum is not addressed.

After consultation with each other, we, the jailed leaders of the party have recognized that the formation of an International Committee to fill the leadership gap is imperative.

We have decided that this designated Committee will be an overarching body whose responsibility is to direct and lead KINIJIT organs, Continental Chapters and Support Groups.

Therefore, we have deliberated upon the appointment of the following six persons to fill KINIJIT International Leadership:

  1. Shaleka Yoseph Yazew
  2. Ato Andargachew Tsige
  3. Dr. Moges Gebremariam
  4. Ato Berhane Mewa
  5. Ato Daniel Assefa
  6. Dr. Gebriye Wolderufael

Moreover, this new leadership shall identify and add three more individuals to be part of it.

We instruct this information to be communicated to all Chapters of KINIJIT organs and Support Groups. For the effective discharge of the enormous responsibilities given to KINIJIT International Leadership Committee, we ask all Ethiopians, Chapters and Support Groups to cooperate with the Committee and abide by its decisions.

The Spirit of Freedom Carried by KINIJIT Shall Overcome!

Ing. Hailu Shawel
Wrt. Birtukan Mideksa
Ato Muluneh Eyouel
Dr. Berhanu Nega
