Travel Guide | July 25, 2007 News Ethiopian protesters storm embassy in London Ethiomedia July 25, 2007 LONDON – Ethiopian protesters last week occupied the embassy in London as a show of defiance to Meles Zenawi’s kangaroo court which had passed death sentences on elected leaders of the opposition Coalition for Unity and Democracy (CUD) on July 10, 2007. The death sentences took a dramatic turn when Meles Zenawi said he has pardoned and freed the leaders. Prior to the release, the London protesters wanted to meet Berhanu Kebede, Meles Zenawi’s envoy at the embassy in London. Berhnau failed to meet the protesters who remained on embassy premises for about one hour. After the embassy occupation was over, the envoy went on Deutsche Welle (German) Radio and said there was barely a three-minute protest. “Was he speaking the truth?” asks Activist Wondimu Mekonnen of London.
