On Saturday, February 18, the Steering Committee for the Kinijit Support Group – Ottawa Chapter hosted a seminar by Ato Abate Kassa, President of AOK Consulting & Education, New York.
Despite temperatures around -32 degrees Celsius, the event was well attended.
Ato Abate made an eloquent presentation on what Kinijit stands for, including its key principles and objectives. Kinijit’s visionary and inclusive platform sets a significant paradigm shift in the Ethiopian political landscape. In the face of a government that is engaged in mass and indiscriminate arrests and other gross human rights violations, Kinijit’s path of peace, reconciliation, and harmony has become a rallying movement to save Ethiopia.
After emphasizing the crucial role of the Ethiopian Diaspora in the struggle to bring about democratic changes in Ethiopia, Ato Abate, made a compelling appeal to the Diaspora to support Kinijit and to work for this noble cause. The audience was inspired by Ato Abate’s appeal and agreed to become founding members of Kinijit Support Ottawa.
Ato Abate also urged all to show solidarity with other interest groups and party support groups who are struggling for democracy in Ethiopia.
The presentation was well received. After the seminar, the Kinijit Support Group – Ottawa Chapter was officially established.
It was agreed that the Steering Committee will shortly call a general meeting to elect a governing body, and to discuss how the Ottawa Chapter can contribute to strengthening the struggle for peace, democracy, the rule of law, and human rights in Ethiopia.
