Some people never sleep. Even when they look like they are sleeping, their eyes are always on the prize. They never miss their target. They always shoot straight and right on. No question asked. Bum! Bum! Bum! Done. And, I might add, well-done. With class. With confidence and defiance. By singing patriotic songs. And the saxophonist, Alene, stealing our hearts.

The Seattle patriots and friends of ESAT have done it again. On Saturday March 19, 2011, they successfully raised funds to support the Ethiopian Satellite Television (ESAT) at the Ethiopian Community Center in Seattle. The Seattle patriots are always ready to answer to the call of duty. They know we had a challenging work ahead. The duty to free our country from the hands of mafia gangs and vagabonds. A task to liberate our people. They have done it time and time again. They never look the other way. That is why they came to support ESAT and help in its quest to fight for a free and democratic Ethiopia.

The Seattle vanguards who showed up today and came to this fundraising event know how to deny themselves. They know how to say no to themselves. They could have gone somewhere and have a good time. They could have used the money to have fun. Or they could have used their time and their money for their family and kids. No, they did not. They denied themselves and showed up to give it all to the cause of Ethiopia and its liberation.

Serious questions were raised and discussed about how to build up ESAT

Speakers include (from left) Dr. Ashenafi Gossay, ESAT board member Shakespear Feyissa, journalist Nigist Selfu and ESAT Seattle spokesperson Dawit Azene. Here it is worth noting that Nigist Selfu presented a paper on “media and democracy in Ethiopia,” for whose presentation the senior radio journalist was accorded a standing ovation (Photo: Ethiomedia).

For instance, Ato Solomon brought all his precious antiques he collected over the years and presented it to be sold on auction. He said, ” I rather give it to the cause of liberating Ethiopia than giving it to my children. By doing so, I help get them a free country rather than cherishable stuff.” How many of you think of giving a free Ethiopia to your children than money and goods? A good question to ponder. We got a free country from our fathers and grandfathers. Sadly, our country lost its freedom on our watch in this generation. We have an obligation and a debt to pay. We have to give back a free country to our children.

The Seattle vanguards want to declare not only to killer Zenawi but to the whole world one important truth. They are always ready to fulfil their duty of liberating Ethiopia supporting ESAT and all other democratic forces who are actively fighting to bring freedom, democracy and peace in Ethiopia. This is their promise. This is their word through thick and thin. From sun up to sun down. From season to season. Always. Ready. And on guard. Even if they ran out of money, they will give their shirts. Ready to sacrifice anything and everything.

As expected, the Seattle vanguards did it again. And they will do it with passion and sacrifice until Ethiopia is free.

Ethiopia needs freedom. ESAT is freedom. ESAT is for Ethiopia.
