Tamagne Beyene: A living patriot

Tamagne Beyene

If you ask me to nominate one person that can start a revolution in Ethiopia it is Tamagne Beyene. Tamagne Beyene is a living “Yenesew Gebre.” Young Yenesew Gebre was martyred on Nov. 11, 2011 after defying the corrupt and terrorist regime of Meles Zenawi in Dawaro, South Ethiopia. Tamagne Beyene has been defying TPLF for almost two decades and speak the mind of million voiceless Ethiopians. Ethiopians recent experience in participating in organized election of 2005 brought them more than 200 lives lost, thousands jailed and the end of public gathering and organized politics. Since then people are crying for a Leader, “YeMere Yalehe” !!!

Courageous activist/journalist Eskinder Nega an exceptional writer, Andualem Arage brave political leader are long gone and the TV Drama of “Akeledama” that was released last week before even the TPLF court got a chance to send them to long term jail as terrorists/Ashebariwoche is now going to be aired again on the weekend to partying on the Terrorist Movie/Akeldama and convince themselves, the accusers. The Ethiopian people will not watch this third rated movie for a second time.

Young political leader, Birtukan Medeksa came out of another type of accusation and jail term and has been speaking lately here in the diaspora. But I can tell you that even among these tested leaders Tamagne Beyene is on top of the list as a person that has the confidence of 80 million people to lead the masses for the eventual downfall of Meles Zenawi’s dictatorial unelected regime.

Tamagne Beyene’s activism is easily understood by Ethiopians. He speaks their mind and dream their dream. He tells the Ethiopian people that each one of them are important to bring change. He empowers our people on his appearances on programs on radio like VOA and ESAT TV. Who will forget Tamagne Beyene and TPLF debate on VOA Amharic. Tamagne won in a knockout, hardly a surprise !!!!

Tamagne is not on a campaign vote for me what he is doing is speaking the mind of millions of voiceless people of Ethiopia. Ethiopians showed their respect for him in the diaspora by joining him in the meeting he was invited. He challenged all of us to brake Fear/ “Firhate” and be the voice of the voiceless Ethiopians. The living Yenesew Gebre, Tamagne Beyene is Ethiopian asset. The honor he received in our community is a recognition of this fact.

The key role of a person is Ethiopia’s political history. We have no history of organized politics and to expect a miracle at this juncture in our history is unwise. The Ethiopian people challenged the young opposition parties in the 2005 stolen election by raising a slogan “Unite or Perish” meaning “Tebaberu Weyeme Tesebaberu”. We all know what happened, our demise was due to the missing one man/woman.

Without Mengistu Hailemariam Derg was lifeless so does TPLF without Meles Zenawi. The strongmen rule, the rest of the crew simply taking orders. No wonder TPLF first demand two decades ago before capturing Addis Ababa was to find a plane to take Mengistu Hailemariam out of Ethiopia. After two decades Ethiopians are calling for a one way ticket for Meles Zenawi, that will be the end of TPLF. Is that not what happened to Ben Ali of Tunisia early this year ?

Tamagne Beyane’s speech most of the time is zeroing on his target, Meles Zenawi. Most of TPLF supporters or few opponents of TPLF try to downplay Tamagne’s role as not being a politician but an artist. Who said that an artist can not be a politician ? Ronald Regan was an actor before being a president. Can anyone deny the fact that Meles Zenawi is a much better artist than a politician. I love to see him preforming on stage, he has a big potential for life after politics if he survives ICC.

Ethiopians problem is not about political affiliation, it is about being free to choose. It is not about which party will take over after TPLF. Free people will not worry about that because they will not follow orders from those who only shine in darkness. Open society can resolve its problems in a transparent manner. Tamagne Beyene is an ordinary Ethiopian, speak his mind and when opportunity arises so will Ethiopians.

Organized politicians should get their act like Muslim Brotherhood of Egypt to take power. One thing is for sure neither the Egypt people nor Ethiopians will be ruled like the past. The past is gone never to come back. Politics will be a job like any other job if you are good at it you will get it but you will not make illegal profit out of it. We will make TPLF the last organization to profit from power !!!!
