BANGKOK, Thailand – The Cabinet today granted the 15-day entry to Ethiopians, hoping to draw back tourists.
Deputy Government Spokesman Supachai Chaisamut said this approval will allow Ethiopian tourists to seek 15-day Visa on arrival at the immigration checkpoints.
Since 1992, the tourists have had to obtain visas from Thai embassies in Egypt or Nairobi before entering Thailand, as Thailand has no embassy in Ethiopia.
Supachai noted that the number of tourists from the country has been on the rise thanks to the direct flights by Ethiopian Airline. In 2009, the number hit 9,000. Most of them also used medical services in Thailand. These tourists showed huge spending power, he said.
